Les Mis and Django have a strong Christmas day opening.
The musical, starring Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, took in a healthy $18.1 million, according to studio estimates.

Quentin Tarantino’s movie pulled in $15 million on Christmas day with this strong of a start it could gain momentum for some awards or even to get people to go out to the theatre and see it.
Both films claimed spots in the record books as Les Misérables and Django Unchained scored the second- and third-highest Christmas Day openings on record, respectively. Sherlock Holmes still holds the record for the all time record with 24.6 million on Christmas day in 2009.
